If the sight of these desks lined up in the early morning light make you miss the simple joys of innocent childhood...if they make you yearn for those days of unfettered learning and discovery...if they make you long for the solidarity of classmates and peers...YOU OBVIOUSLY ARE NOT A TEACHER! ;)
I walked into my classroom this morning and was struck by the beauty of the scene (see picture, above) and the irony that I was still able to find beauty in such a scene. I am glad to know that I am still able to see beauty in inanimate objects! Dealing with the little bodies that were to occupy these empty seats, however, was much more an exercise in exquisite torture. I will not begin to describe the details of my hellacious day. Just know that it is time for school to be over! I want you to know that I do enjoy working with students. I like most of the individuals that I teach. But the problem is that I don't teach individuals, I teach angry mobs! I teach gaggles of silly, tired, ready-for-the summer 7th and 8th graders who would much rather joke and laugh than learn the last few lessons that must be taught before the final. I teach hoards of 9th graders who already know it all and feel no need to listen as I explain the finer points of factoring polynomial equations. The 10th graders are my saving grace...but even THEY are getting a little rowdy!
It was a rough day...I just needed to vent! And I liked my picture and wanted a reason to post it, so there ya go! ;) Just 8 days and counting--and believe me, we are ALL counting!
